The story is the same for every new mom that welcomes a baby.  After 9 very long months of pregnancy, you finally get to meet your beautiful baby.  You are on cloud nine with all of the love you have, but once a few weeks pass, your body starts to heal and reality sets in you may be beating yourself up over still wearing your maternity clothes.  It is very normal to have feelings that your body is not bouncing back as quick as it should.  Here are a few things to keep in mind to have a healthy mindset when losing the baby weight.

Don’t Put The Pressure On Doing It Overnight

You may be used to seeing celebs just weeks after giving birth on magazines with headlines that read “How She Lost All The Baby Weight In 4 Weeks” or “Looking Fab After Giving Birth Just Last Month.”  The truth is that this is not the reality for most moms.  Celebs have the financial resources to hire cooks and personal trainers while a baby nurse is keeping watch over their little one.  Ramona Braganza, trainer to celebrities like Halle Berry, recommends a more realistic approach to moms working out.  Braganza advises to “…schedule exercise in your day, or it probably won’t happen.”

Focus On Losing Weight Slowly

You may have heard it from fellow mothers but it takes 9 months to gain the weight, so it will probably take 9 months to lose it.  It is never good to gain or lose weight quickly as it can be a shock to your system.  Have the mentality that shedding the weight is more important than the time frame you lose the weight in.  It is also important to note that if you choose to breastfeed your baby there are a number of health advantages, including burning up to 500 extra calories a day.  Nursing gives your body a natural way to shed a few extra calories daily.

Practice A Healthy Lifestyle

Being a new mom means setting an example for this new life that you have brought into the world.  It will just be a matter of time before your babies eyes are going to be laser focused on what his or her mommy is eating and start getting their lifestyle cues from you.  Start creating some healthy habits to encourage an active lifestyle for your child, which starts by eating well and exercising.

By forming a healthy attitude and adopting a lifestyle that encourages losing weight and becoming more active, you will eventually lose the baby weight.  Just remember to focus on one day at a time for a healthier you.
