If you are an adult who is fed up with having a slightly crooked smile, it can sometimes feel like the world is against you. Images of celebrity smiles, coupled with the high price of orthodontics can make it seem as though that perfect smile is out of reach.
In years gone by, there were few options available for adults with orthodontic issues. Myths about braces only working on children permeated people’s preconceptions about dentistry, preventing many adults from seeking help for their misaligned smiles.Luckily, thanks to advancements in dental technology, there is now a solution that offers a straighter smile in under a year, will not cost an arm and a leg, all whilst also being discreet.
Many dental surgeries across the UK, such as Clear Braces Direct in London, are focussed on providing adults with simple and affordable orthodontic options and can help you get that straighter smile in less than a year!
How does it work? Read on to find out!
When you visit a dentist, like Clear Braces Direct in London, ensure beforehand that they are trained in working with this brace.
At your initial consultation, your expectations on how you want your final smile to look will be discussed and a mould of your teeth will be taken using a 3-D scanner. A thorough examination of your mouth will take place, to ensure there are no untreated issues, such as tooth decay or gum disease.
Your dentist will discuss your treatment plan with you, once your 3-D scan has been completed.
Your treatment plan will involve how long it is predicted you will need to wear Invisalign for, showing you a computer simulation of how your teeth will move throughout the treatment, this will be alongside how many aligners will be required to achieve the final result.
Between 7-10 days after your consultation, your clear aligners will arrive back at the dental surgery.
The exciting moment is here; you get to try on your first aligner! It may feel slightly tight, but don’t worry, this is completely normal! In order for Invisalign to work, you will be required to wear the aligners for up to 22 hours each day.
The good news is that Invisalign is renowned for being extremely comfortable and although the brace is removable, it is extremely secure, so it won’t come loose. If it does, you will need to check with your dentist to identify the cause, because this shouldn’t happen.
Different to metal braces, Invisalign braces don’t require tightening but, throughout the treatment, you will need to visit your dentist to check progress.
Remember, in order for this brace to work to its full potential, you must wear it for 22 hours a day; your dentist will know if you’ve been fibbing!
Once treatment has been completed, usually between 6-9 months, you will be given a set of custom-fitted retainers, to prevent your teeth relapsing into their old positions.
And it’s as simple as that! A simple process for a great looking smile! Perfect!
