5 Tips for Helping Your Body Naturally Promote Detox After Addiction

The toll an addiction takes on your body can be extremely serious and lasting. While you can seek treatment for the initial detox, you have only just begun your long road to recovery. Many long-term health conditions can be created or exacerbated by addiction, and you must take your health very seriously. Fortunately, there are several ways you can help boost your body’s detoxification process while you recover.

Hydrate

The first step towards removing toxins from your body is through proper hydration. Your kidneys are working to flush your system, so they must be fueled with plenty of water. Healthy individuals are recommended to drink at least one ounce of water for each pound of body weight they have. Before beginning an intense hydration regimen, you should talk to your doctor and be aware of any kidney conditions you may have.

Cardio

As you begin to improve your health and energy levels, it can be wise to start doing a cardiovascular activity each day. For roughly one hour a day, try running, swimming, or doing aerobics. This will allow your liver, kidneys and other vital organs to strengthen and stimulate, allowing your body to detox naturally. Additionally, sweat is a natural way of removing toxins from the body.

Eat Seaweed

Some experts say that the active ingredient in seaweed, sodium alginate, binds to the drug remnants in your system, preventing your body from absorbing them. As strange as it may sound, eating 2-3 ounces of dried or fresh seaweed each day can help boost the detox process. If you find seaweed unappetizing, try consuming it in sushi rolls or as dried salty chips. In case you are considering sushi rolls, make sure you figure out how long can sushi sit out so that the ingredients (like seaweed) can stay fresh until you consume it.

Utilize Ginger

Ginger has long been touted as one of the greatest detoxifying agents and stomach settlers. Many pregnant women choose to suck on ginger candies in order to alleviate nausea. The active ingredient in ginger, gingerol, works as a detoxifying agent in the body. You can begin eating ginger candy to glean these benefits, or put fresh ginger in your cooking.

Alternatively, ginger can easily be consumed as a steeped tea. Grating your own fresh ginger will have the greatest potency and you can add honey to taste. Some people prefer to do a detoxifying bath by grating the ginger into a bathtub with hot water. This can be beneficial, but does dehydrate you, so be sure to sip a lot of cold water while in the tub.

Love Lemon

Similar to ginger, many believe that lemon has detoxifying properties for the digestive system as well. Some health nuts have taken to sipping fresh squeezed lemon juice in hot water each morning, believing it both hydrates and detoxes the body after a night of sleep.
