Why Aren’t Lifestyle Beds Suited to Mobility Issues?

People who suffer from mobility issues are often advised to buy an adjustable bed. These can be moved in various ways using a remote control, but not all adjustable beds are created equal. You might come across adjustable beds sold more for comfort than for therapy – they will often be cheaper, and you may find them referred to as ‘lifestyle beds’.

Here are just a few reasons why you should look for a proper adjustable bed instead.

Lifestyle Beds Lack Varied Positions

For the most part, lifestyle beds will offer only a ‘Sit Up’ setting that makes it nicer for people who like to read or watch TV as they snuggle into their beds. However, such beds are unlikely to provide a variety of sleeping positions or height levels, which is why they are generally less expensive. If you have mobility issues, looking for a bed with different height and sleeping options is very important and well worth the added cost.

Lifestyle Beds Don’t Support Different Accessories

Another way to tell a lifestyle bed from a proper adjustable bed is by checking whether it is equipped with certain accessories. For example, an adjustable bed should fit items such as grab bars to make sure you can pull yourself up easily. A lifestyle bed will not be designed to accommodate such additions, so they won’t be as effective in the long run. They will also lack most of the additional features available with therapeutic adjustable beds, such as massage and heating functions.

Lifestyle Beds Don’t Offer Home Consultations

You can tell you’re buying an adjustable bed from a company well-versed in mobility issues when they offer a home consultation. A representative will come to your home to assess your needs and measure your property, ensuring in the process that you receive the best product to alleviate pain and keep your body as mobile as possible. Such consultations aren’t necessary for lifestyle beds, so they won’t be offered.

Lifestyle beds are great for improving comfort, but those with mobility issues should look to more specialised products if they desire the best results.
