Will Switching to E-Cigarettes Really Keep the Doctor Away?

In today’s world, people are extremely curious as to the effects of e-cigarettes on the body, and are desirous of knowing whether it is better for your health than smoking.

The health effects of cigarette smoking are well-known, and many people try, without success, every year to quit this habit. There is a desperation inherent to those who are wanting to cease using tobacco, but on its own, willpower often proves to not be enough. Large numbers of people have switched to e-cigarettes in an attempt to reduce the negative side effects that cigarettes are having on their body. This is because smoking has been shown to affect every system in the body, and the benefits to quitting are numerous.

Studies show that once a person stops smoking, their body begins to restore the damage caused by the long-term inhalation of tobacco smoke. In fact, the chance of having a heart attack drops drastically after just one year, and the danger of developing lung cancer drops by 50% in ten years. Your potential for developing cancers of the mouth, throat, and oesophagus drops, and your capacity for physical activity increases.

What Are E-Cigarettes?

To begin with, it is necessary to distinguish the variety of products that fall under the umbrella of vaping and e-cigarettes. Both vape pens and e-cigarettes can be purchased online and in shops (vape pens are often found in specific vape stores, whereas the latter can be found at gas stations). Their appearance varies, as vape devices look either like ballpoint pens or like mini telescopes, and e-cigarettes have the size and shape of traditional cigarettes. E-cigarettes tend to carry higher nicotine concentrations and lower amounts of vapor, and this is the opposite with vaping. Some who vape even do so without any nicotine content at all. The distinction between vaping and using e-cigarettes is a necessary one to make, because the two are usually confused in the media and in legislative measures.

The American Heart Association has urged the FDA to place bans on e-cigarettes for those who are under the age of 18 because of the potential for developing addictive tendencies. They do, however, acknowledge the pattern of usage is different for persons using it to transition away from smoking cigarettes. They have said that in cases like this that doctors should not shy their patients away from e-cigarettes as an alternative to smoking, because it can lead to better outcomes. There is a consensus among experts that this is not an activity one should begin engaging in if one is not currently a smoker.

Will it Lead to Better Health?

That said, there are risks to using e-cigarettes. They contain far fewer chemicals than traditional cigarettes, but they are still made with ingredients than can have adverse health effects. Nicotine can cause the blood sugar to rise, and it is a danger to those who have diabetes. In addition, it causes blood pressure numbers to elevate, and this increases the risk for heart attack and stroke. Though studies have been done on e-cigarettes, they lack the true measure of telling what the consequences will be: time. For this reason, many remain sceptical as to what the true hazards to using e-cigarettes are.

The American Heart Association has recommended that the Food and Drug Administration review and regulate the use of e-cigarettes, and some within the FDA have expressed that as a cessation aid, e-cigarettes play a prominent role. It is a fact that e-cigarettes do not have the 4,000 agents, at least 400 of which are toxic and 43 carcinogenic, that are found in conventional cigarettes. That alone takes a tremendous burden off the body. Some juices for vaping contain very few ingredients and are practically homemade.

It is also possible, using vape mods, to completely wean oneself away from nicotine by gradually reducing the dosage. In addition, there have been studies that have found that the amount of toxins inhaled are significantly lower — from between 9 to 450 times — than that of regular cigarettes. While the healthiest course is complete abstinence, e-cigarettes are a useful method to get people there.
